Principles Course India - in collaboration with IFAS
Date 19th - 21st June 2024
The success of the UK-based BOFAS Principles in Foot & Ankle Surgery Course has been continued in India since 2017.
The inaugural course was hosted in Delhi in 2017 and has subsequently been held in Bangalore (2018 & 2019). The course maintains the structure of the principles course with 2 days of lectures and examination skills and a third day of cadaver-based surgical approaches and techniques. The course continues to evolve but includes topics on infection and neglected trauma which are much more common than in the UK.
Faculty has comprised of members of both the Indian & British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Societies with Dr Balvinder Rana, from New Delhi, acting as course co-convenor. Delegates have been made up of Indian trainees and newly-appointed consultants.
Due to the global pandemic, a face-to-face course was impossible in 2022. However we were able to host a virtual Zoom-based day of teaching using both British and Indian faculty. Short ‘core’ lectures were combined with small-group breakout room case-based discussion. While it was disappointing, but inevitable, that a full course could not run in 2020/2021 the socially-distanced version was well received and will possibly continue in some guise in the future.
The 2024 course will be run in Delhi as a face to face meeting. Details for application can be found on the IFAS Website https://ifas.in/#home
