Information for Speakers

 

I have agreed to speak at the BOFAS Annual Congress, what happens next?

You will be contacted by a member of the Event Team who will ask you to provide your biography, a high resolution photo, and your preferred contact details.

 

What should my biography include?

A short biography should include about details of your career as well as your current job title and institution. This information will appear on the Congress website, in the on-the-programme and the Congress App.

 

What happens on the day I am speaking at an event? What do I need to know?

In-person: We ask that you arrive at least 30 minutes before your session is due to start, to check your presentation with the AV team in the Speaker Preview/ Media Suite. All presentations should be uploaded to the specific file request link by 3pm on Tuesday 28^th January 2025. Full details of the location of the Speaker Preview/ Media Suite will in the speaker guidance document which will be provided by the Events Team.

Virtually: If you are unable to attend in person to present at Congress, you are able to provide a pre-recording of your presentation. This needs to be uploaded to the specific file request link by 3pm on Tuesday 28^th January 2025.

 

Do I need to pay to attend Congress?

Non-Member: As an invited speaker, you do not need to pay to attend Congress on the day which you will be speaking. You will be sent a registration link to register for the days you wish to attend.

BOFAS member: As a BOFAS member and speaker you will be required to pay for registration through the members registration link for the days you wish to attend congress.

If you are a Free Paper speaker or Poster presenter, in a non-substantive post, you will be sent a ‘trainee presenting’ link. This will apply to only one person who will be the named presenter of your paper or poster.  Any other authors wishing to attend will need to register through the normal registration link.

 

Can I claim back my travel costs?

Non-BOFAS member - Yes, as an invited non-member speaker, you can claim back to cost for the following.   

• Travel cost for the day before or day of presenting. 

A claim form will be sent to you by the events team and this will need to be returned with receipts via events@bofas.org.uk.
